The name Montara comes possibly from a misspelling of the Spanish word “Montosa.” Farmers began settling the area in the late 1800’s. During the 1950’s, the area began to see steady growth as the postwar boom enticed people to move here from the San Francisco area. Even so, Montara has retained its rural image, a quality that makes it such an enticing place to buy a home. The moderate climate is also a great reason to live in Montara, as temperatures rarely go below freezing, and summer temperatures stay in the 60’s.
